Happy May! It's been abnormally warm in San Francisco the past few days, which got me thinking about dressing for summer. I've mentioned a few times how much I prefer cooler weather. There's a sophistication to winter fashion that, to me, is missing from summer fashion (who decided jorts were suddenly acceptable just because it's hot outside?! 🙊).

I'm trying to be more open-minded and really give summer dressing a chance, and for me that means planning the perfect summer outfit. I started with this gorgeous Carven dress. This was the perfect piece to build my look around because it was just playful enough without being overbearing. The skirt on this mini dress is so lovely. Each tier is trimmed with lace, giving it a perfect feminine touch. There is so much volume in the circle skirt which makes the dress incredibly playful and so fun to wear. The dress has a boxy oversized fit which I may have previously avoided out of fear of it being unflattering. However, this look was about trying new things, and I'm pleased with the fit of the dress. And it is SO comfortable!

After deciding on the dress, I was ready to plan the rest of the look. I knew I wanted to add a straw hat, for a few reasons:

  1. Practicality. As you saw in my recent skincare post, I take skincare super seriously, and a hat is a great way to hide a little bit more from the sun.

  2. Cohesion. The structured hat would pair nicely with the flowy feminine skirt of the dress. So I landed on this boater hat which was just what I had in mind.

I knew I definitely would be wearing these new French Connection mules that I received courtesy of ThredUp. I have been loving mules for a while now, and these are going to get a lot of wear! Paired with these gingham trimmed socks, they were perfect for this summer look.

The last piece to my summer look is earrings. Statement earrings are such a huge trend this season, and I have been loving my Bauble Bar earrings which you may have seen here and here. I found these watermelon earrings from asos and fell in love. They are so quintessentially summer, and the perfect finish for my summer look.

I had a lot of fun putting this together, and am looking forward to planning more fun summer looks for you! I hope this helps you plan your summer outfits!
